Overview
Michigan Medicine's Interpreter Services SharePoint worked more like a document dump than a tool built for people — cluttered, unclear, and organized around internal departments rather than the tasks staff actually needed to do. I led research, information architecture, and key screen design on a four-person capstone team. Through surveys, interviews, and card sorting we found that staff knew what they needed but couldn't find it. The card sorting data showed us how users naturally grouped information — completely differently from how the site was organized — so we rebuilt the navigation around tasks instead of internal ownership. The redesign surfaces the most used resources upfront, simplifies navigation, and improves visual hierarchy for fast scanning. Users and stakeholders responded positively, saying the new structure made information feel immediately accessible.
